Overview

The College of Medicine provides the tools necessary for all clinical, academic, research, and administration colleagues to complete their work.
General Standards:

Every employee, based on Position Description, will be assigned IT equipment to perform regular work duties. The standard issue IT equipment details are listed below. Additional items may be provided, in consultations with IT, based on work need or special accommodation. Non-standard peripherals that are based on personal preferences or physical need may be issued by MED IT upon request (ex. trackball/track pads, ergonomic keyboards, etc.) Peripherals that fall outside the standard items available may take longer to acquire, and the costs associated may be charged to a department's budget.

All computers must be acquired by MED IT. Additional computing devices for individuals, labs, institutes, or departments will be charged to alternate budgets. Please see the details regarding additional equipment below.

All IT equipment must meet security/privacy standards throughout its useful life.

Standard Issue Computers and IT Equipment

The IT department will provide one (1) of our standard model computers and an office setup of two (2) 27" monitors or one (1) ultra-widescreen monitor, one (1) docking station or port replicator as is appropriate for the computer and monitors, one (1) keyboard, and one (1) mouse, trackball, or track pad. ADA accommodation requests should be made known to MED IT as soon as possible. If someone is uncomfortable with publicizing an ADA request please contact HR or Administrative Services who will work with the Director of IT for discreet and private handling of all accommodation requests.

Additional Computers

Costs for additional equipment is the responsibility of the department to fund the purchases. IT will make the purchases using the funding sources provided by the department. In the event a person requests a computer different than the standard PC provided an allowance of $1500 toward the purchase of a specialty computer is granted. The balance of the computer cost is also the responsibility of the department.

Clinical Computers

Employees with Clinical Appointments greater than 50% to FSU Health or FMPP clinical practices, equipment is provided by the Florida Medical Practice Plan (FMPP.) Employees with clinical appointments less than 50% time in FSU Health or FMPP clinical practices may request additional equipment to support their work in the clinic. Central Campus IT and Clinical IT will work in conjunction to fulfill requests.

FSU Policy on IT Equipment for use at Home

FSU policy prohibits funding of equipment for exclusive home use, unless the person is a full time remote employee. In such a case, only one setup is provided. Departments may elect to setup "hot desk" or "hotel desk" locations for employees who occasionally visit the office. Departments should discuss their needs with IT and Building Operations to determine the best solution to accommodate transient workers.
