MED WiFi Certificates

MED OIT has implemented additional security measures at some locations. In order to use your personal device (devices not provided by MED OIT), you will need to do one of the following:

  • Use the Guest network provided at the location, usually labeled: "MED-Guest", or "FSU-Guest"
  • Or, use the MED network and follow the process referenced below to install a certificate. This will allow for automated systems to see all traffic that is going to and from your device; no people will have access to this data. No one will have access to any data on your device.

Using the Guest Network

The guest network will provide for a good experience when using the internet. When using the guest network, you will NOT have access to internal resources, such as scanning, printing, or sharing your device's screen wirelessly to a display.

Additionally, you will be prompted to login to the Guest network by entering a PIN code that will be sent once per day, via a text message to your phone.

Overview of Using the MED Network and Installing the Certificate

The certificate installation allows for additional security scanning of network traffic to better protect MED resources from malicious activities. This process is not necessary for devices provided by MED OIT. The installation of the certificate will only need to be completed once per device. In order to install the certificate, you will need to:

  1. Download the certificate "MED_root_CA.cer" to your device
  2. Install the certificate to your device

After installing the certificate, no one will have access to see the data that is on your device. Automated systems will be able to see all data that is going to and from your device while on the College of Medicine network. A number of sensitive websites are excluded from this additional scanning like Athena EMR, NBME Exams, VoIP phones, and all financial websites.

Depending on the operating system of your device, you may see a number of messages indicating that your FSU network traffic could be monitored. No people will be able to see the contents of your device. Automated systems will be able to see all traffic going to and leaving your device while on the College of Medicine networks. No individual will have access to see the data that was transmitted.
