Set up Calendar Syncing

This guide will show you how to sync your class calendar to your phone. The method used is a little convoluted, as phones are not able to directly open MEDNet calendars. We will be using your MED computer to sync the student calendar to your MED email calendar which will then show up on your phone.

If you need help with this please contact the Service Desk.

  1. Make sure you have your MED email set up on your phone. If you need help doing that, please see this article: Accessing Email

    1. That is all the setup you need on your phone. The rest of the steps will be done on your computer.

  2. Make sure you are signed in to your MED account in Outlook on your computer.

  3. Open Internet Explorer and navigate to https://med.fsu.edu and go to the My Resources menu and select O365 Mednet Intranet.

  4. Under the “Students” tab at the top, click on “M1 Calendar” or “M2 Calendar” depending on which one you want to add.

  1. Click the “Open Calendar” button.

  1. Click the “CALENDAR” tab at the top.

  1. Click “Connect to Outlook”

  1. Say “Yes” on the prompt.

  1. Outlook should open. If it doesn’t, go ahead and open it manually.

  2. If Outlook has a prompt to open the calendar, allow it.

  3. You should now be able to see the class calendar in Outlook. We will now set it to sync to your phone.

  4. Open “Software Center” on your computer and install the program “CodeTwo FolderSync”. You will need to reboot Outlook after it’s installed.

    1. If it is not available in your Software Center or if you need assistance installing it, please contact the Help Desk.

  5. In Outlook, press “File” and then select “CodeTwo FolderSync Addin”

  1. Press the “Add…” button.

  1. Next to Folder 1, press “Browse”

  1. Expand the folder “SharePoint Lists” and select the class calendar and press OK.

  1. Next to Folder 2, press “Browse”

  2. Expand your MED email and select “Calendar” and press OK

  1. Verify the correct calendars are selected and click OK and OK again.

  1. Go to your Calendar in Outlook. There should be a new button at the top labeled “Synchronize”. When you press this button, it will sync the calendar entries from the class calendar to your personal calendar.

  1. You should now be able to see your calendar on your phone. It may take several minutes for the first sync to finish before it shows up.

CodeTwo does not sync the calendars automatically, so to ensure that your phone always have the latest information, you will have to periodically press the “Synchronize” button again.

Note: On occasion, if you have already synced the calendar in the past on an old computer and already have items in your personal calendar, doing this process over from scratch may duplicate some items. If this happens, please see the guide below to remove the duplicates.

Removing Duplicate Entries / Change Which Calendar is Syncing

  1. Navigate to the Calendar section of Microsoft Outlook
  2. Delete the wrong calendar from the list of “SharePoint Calendars”.
  3. Click on the “View” ribbon toolbar (horizontal) at the top
  4. Change View to List

  1. Sort by Categories, so the arrow is pointing upwards

  1. Delete everything WITH a category. Students do not usually put categories on events, but OME does. This means that we can erase everything with a category safely, as it has been pulled from the SharePoint calendar
    1. You can click the first entry with a category, then scroll down and shift-click the last entry with a category to select all at once. Then hit delete to remove them all at once.
  2. Change the “View” back to Calendar and make sure you do not see any old classes on your MED calendar.
  3. Connect your desired SharePoint calendar and setup the new “CodeTwo FolderSync” add-on connection using the instructions at the top of this article. You will have to remove the old connection.
