Windows Updates in Software Center

The College of Medicine has switched to using Software Center for Windows updates on all computers. Here is how to check for and install updates:

1. Open Software Center (search in Start Menu)

2. Click on the Updates tab in the top-left

3. If no updates show up, let it sit open for a few minutes to check for new updates.
   1. Sometimes pressing F5 on your keyboard will refresh it faster.
4. If there are any updates, press the “Install All” button at the top.
   1. The mandatory installation date is listed next to each update. This is the day that your computer will automatically reboot if you do not manually install updates ahead of time. When this day is reached, you will see a message (step 6). You can not postpone the updates any longer.

5. You can go to the “Installation Status” tab in the top-left to see the progress of updates.
6. If updates are not installed before the deadline, you see the messsage below. The computer will reboot at the end of the timer.
