Searching Address Book in Outlook

By default, the FSU Global Address Book sorts people by First Name. Sometimes people have requested a name change, or go by a nickname (Example "Katherine" going by "Katie"), so finding them that way isn't always the easiest unless you know 100% what to look for.

Follow these tips to enhance your search and more quickly/easily find who you're looking for:

  1. Utilize the "More columns" search option.
    1. Searching by "Name Only" you have to enter the whole name. So to find "Katie Smith", you can't just enter "Smith". Using "More Columns" will search either name.
  2. Change the "Address Book" you're searching under to "College of Medicine".
    1. If you use the default Address Book, you're looking at the entire University. Obviously looking for "Smith" is going to return hundreds of results. Changing it to "College of Medicine" will only show people affiliated with FSU MED.
    2. You can set this to be your default Address Book search list in the "Tools" > "Options" menu.
    3. Find "College of Medicine" in the list and use the arrows on the right to move it to the top of the list
    4. Then select "College of Medicine" from the drop-down labeled "When opened the address book, show this address list first".
